Mount Avoca, Lagrein, Pyrenees, VIC – 2018

$32.00

A native of the Alto Adige in North Eastern Italy, this curious dark-skinned grape is prized for producing
wines with firm tannins and good colour. The variety hails from the cooler region of Italy which could be
the reason it’s flourishing in the cooler climate Pyrenees. However, it is also producing amazing wine in
the warmer Australian regions of Murray Darling and Riverland. At Mount Avoca, it is the first variety to
bud burst in the spring and the last to harvest. Their deep ruby expression is ripe with dark berries and
cherry flesh. Roasted coffee beans on the nose with a herbaceous finish. Even their local cockatoo
population has developed a taste for its flavour, meaning they must net in the weeks prior to harvest.
